Labor Markets

Minimum wage laws should be abolished. Effective minimum wage rates (those which exceed the market rate) are destructive and immoral. They’re an offence to human decency. Neither minimum wage laws nor collective bargaining or Unionism can raise real wages or living standards for everyone. They never have and they never will. All they do is create unemployment and undermine Australia's prosperity and liberty.

There’s only one factor that ultimately raises real wages and living standards. It's called capital accumulation. That means: Factories, machines, inventions –– the material means of production –– in the hands of profit seeking entrepreneurs. Listen to my weekly podcasts with free market economist and Liberal Party member, Gerard Jackson, at LabourMarketReform.com to find out more and for lots of ideas on how to properly defend reform and smash anti free market fallacies.

The ABC

Privatize it. Sell it to the highest bidder. It’s worse than useless. Listen to my song and buy my campaign merchandise at: PrivatizeTheABC.com

Funding the Arts

Government funding of the Arts kills the creative spirit. Funded arts projects don’t focus on Art or Truth. Recipients frequently tend to be propagandists. Moreover, these taxpayer-funded ‘artists’ have an inclination to produce work that paints a hostile picture of Australia. These alleged works of art are designed to win praise from a self-appointed cultural elite that holds a thoroughly distorted and antagonistic view of our country. It beats me why ordinary Australians should be dragooned into funding those who have nothing but contempt for them and their values.

Education

Educational spending per pupil has never been higher in real terms –– so why are educational standards falling? Why are so many children functionally illiterate? Bureaucrats, union officials and politicians have no business experimenting with the children of others. If new methods of teaching English and mathematics are developed then let them be decided upon at the level of the school. This can only be done through a voucher system. In other words, market processes. Those schools that fail their pupils will be forced to close. Those that succeed in raising educational standards will flourish.

Just as we have separation of church and state so we should have separation of education and state. A state-funded education system that denies the mass of Australians a genuine choice of schools ultimately breeds social engineers who will replace education with indoctrination. Factoids will prevail and not facts. In my opinion it's impossible for state-funded education to teach about the necessity and values of liberty, private private property and respect for the inalienable rights of the individual.

Classrooms are for learning, not politics. If children are to be taught politics let it be done by their parents and not by political activists masquerading as teachers. A voucher system is, I believe, the only way to bring about a significant rise in educational standards while at the same time driving politics out of the classroom.

Nuclear Power

As for the economics of nuclear versus coal, gas, whatever, let the free market sort that out. God bless the profit motive. Energy is the lifeblood of any economy. We cannot afford measures that will cut living standard by artificially raising the cost of electricity. This is a prime reason why decisions to build power stations should be left to market processes and not politicians and green ideologues. In addition, Mr Howard's idea of Australia becoming an energy superpower is marvellous.

Defence

Australia's armed forces should be equipped with the most up-to-date military technology that is available –– no matter what it is. We need a Military and an Intelligence service that will effectively deter any potential enemy. This also means that the American alliance should not be weakened in any way. Like it or not, we are now in the midst of another World War, which is going to get a lot worse.

(Listen to my song: Act of War)

Israel

Israel is the only legitimate state in the Middle East. Not because of its history. Not because the Jews have been persecuted and therefore deserve a land of their own, but because Israel is a productive, freedom loving pro-Capitalist Democracy that respects rights and protects its citizens. Israel is a beacon of light and Western values smack in the middle of the barbarism of the Middle East.

May Israel prevail!

The USA

The United States is not just a nation –– it’s an ideal. It is the wealthiest nation on the planet. Yet it wasn't created as a nation of money. It was designed as a Land of Liberty. It was founded on Universal principles. Its wealth is simply a CONSEQUENCE of those principles. Any nation at any time which adopts American Ideals such as the Bill of Rights and the Right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, can achieve what America has achieved. There's nothing magic about it.

Australia has nothing in common, ideologically or culturally with Asia. Like the USA and the UK, we are a nation of the Enlightenment. Check out my website: DiscoverThomasJefferson.com

Government

I’m a Classical Liberal. I DO believe in Government. I’m not an anarcho-capitalist. I don’t believe in “big” government OR “small” government as such. Government does not need to be small or even efficient. It simply needs to be effective in its primary function: Defending individual rights. Defending the citizen against those who initiate physical force against him. Government should confine itself to its basic functions.

Politics

It’s good! I like it. I love it. I recommend it. If you have the stomach for it, please do it. Politics is an honourable profession. Government is not a “necessary evil”. And join the Free Market Roundtable our unofficial group of Liberal Party members dedicated to promoting Free Market principles within the Liberal Party and across the community: FreeMarketRoundtable.ORG

John Pasquarelli

I was at the Policy Assembly meeting in 2006 that voted to decline John Pasquarelli’s application to rejoin the Liberal Party. Although I don't agree with Mr Pasquarelli on a lot of things, I was greatly saddened by the rejection of his application. He’s a good man. And he’s NOT in any way a “racist”. That's total baloney. We need more people like him. Listen to my interview with John Pasquarelli at:  prodos.solidvox.com

Multiculturalism

It's not about celebrating “diversity”. If only it was. Its aim is to undermine all core Western values such as Democracy, Capitalism, individualism, rights, freedom, reason, science and technology, the pursuit of happiness –– by pretending that so-called “traditional” cultures (whatever the hell that means) are as worthy as modern culture. Well, they’re not. This is just racist, retrogressive rubbish. We should stop celebrating (and funding) tribalism and start celebrating (and liberating) the Individual.

Islam

Islam is NOT a “religion of peace”. But Christianity is exactly that. Individuals like Grand Mufti Sheikh Taj El-Din Hamid Hilaly, are NOT fringe-dwelling extremist nutcases. The Sheik is an Islamic scholar –– probably without equal in Australia. He knows his Koran inside out, back to front.

His "controversial" statements over the years are NOT accidents or errors or misunderstandings. They are not misrepresentations of Islam. Every statement can be backed up by reference to mainstream Islamic canonical texts. Sure, he may be "embarrassing" to some Muslims. But there isn’t a single one of them who'd be able to refute him on the basis of Islamic texts, or go one-on-one with him to demonstrate the Sheik has at any point contradicted or misrepresented Islam or the words of Mohammed.

Then there’s the “moderate” Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV). It recommends and links to a website called Islam-Online.NET which advocates the murder of apostates. Don’t take my word, go and see for yourself: icv.org.au.

However, by publishing these verifiable facts, has BrookesNews.com just breached Victoria’s Racial & Religious Tolerance Act? Is Gerard Jackson going to play it safe and gag himself by not publishing this information?

Let’s find out.

Capitalism

I worship Capitalism. I jump for joy when I see the products of Capitalism around me. And if you aren't doing that too, then you don't yet understand the true Magnificence of Capitalism. Open your eyes! Open your soul! You see, it's actually not about money as such. It's about freedom and creativity. Give people freedom, and some will use it to write poetry, others will use it to travel, others will use it run schools, and others will use it to produce and trade, and get rich, rich, rich!

I LOVE Capitalism!

The Liberal Party

First I want to shout from the highest mountain top: “John Howard Forever!”

Do you want to know what I really think about the Party at the moment? We have too many power-lusting mediocrities running things, pulling strings, bending rules, undermining the members, and wrecking this Great Party. Too many pretenders puntzing about with no connection to the community, no respect for democratic principles, no commitment to free market principles and individual rights. The members know this. And if you’re a Liberal Party member reading this, I know that YOU know it!

We need to purge the Party of these fools. We need individuals who understand grassroots campaigning. Who relish debate and open discussion within the community. And we need individuals who don't just go around promising every man and his dog taxpayer-funded handouts.

We have many, many excellent individuals within the Party. Positive, creative, freedom-loving, principled individuals.

If you’re one of them, phone me now on: 9428 1234 (Melbourne, Australia)

Let’s make the Liberal Party of Australia the Party of free thinking and free markets.

So we can make Australia the Creative Capital of the World!
