The Party of Lincoln vs. the Democrats' hate machine*
Gerard Jackson
What I find truly depressing about the Democrats is not their relentless partisanship; after all, partisanship is integral to politics. It's their absence of common decency, their utter rejection of civil discourse, their ruthless assault on the truth, their defeatism and their contempt for patriotism that revolts me.
Instead of shared principles based on a belief in the righteousness of the American Constitution the Democrats have launched a ferocious and sustained assault on those values that made Americans think of themselves as Americans first and not Democrats or Republicans. For these hardcore Democrats the party comes first and America a very poor second, if that.
That most Democrats in the House and the Senate, as well as their corrupt media allies, have treated the principles upon which the US Constitution rests with fascist-like contempt has been the most frightening thing about Democrat Party and its hateful behaviour. The Democrats' pathological hatred for Republicans is leading them to think of Republicans the same way that Nazis thought of Jews: vermin that needed to be exterminated.
Reflecting on this dreadful state of affairs brought my thoughts to bear on the words of Abraham Lincoln, a man with a sharp eye for humbug and an uncanny ability to strike at the philosophical core of his opponents' arguments. The magisterial Lincoln was at his best when he defined the soul of the Republican Party in this accurate and scathing attack on the Democrats:
The Republicans inculcate, with whatever ability they can, that the Negro is a man, that his bondage is cruelly wrong, and that the field of his oppression ought not to be enlarged. The Democrats deny his manhood; deny, or dwarf to insignificance the wrong of his bondage; so far as possible, crush all sympathy for him, and cultivate and excite hatred and disgust against him; compliment themselves as Union-savers for doing so; and call the indefinite spreading of his bondage 'a sacred right of self-government.'
No Democrat ever made such a speech in defence of the liberty of the black man.
This is what the same Democratic Party is trying to do to Republicans with the willing aid of leftwing journalists that dominate what Rush Limbaugh rightly calls the "partisan media". To call the so-called mainstream media shamelessly hypocritical and corrupt would be to flatter it. The noble foundation stone of the Republican Party was liberty for all which was expressed in its anti-slavery plank. Its fervent belief that no man had a right, regardless of race or creed, to holder another human being in bondage is what made the Party the bedrock of individual liberty in the US.
Now, as we contemplate the political corruption that the Democrats have brought to the political process, academia, the media and even Hollywood, and survey the social wreckage that decades of the Democrats' policies have wrought we come to realise that Democratic zealots have returned to their roots much as a "dog returns to its vomit".
To these fanatical Democrats the Republicans now fill the role that the hapless "negro" once played. They are now the target of these Democrats', fears, frustrations, pathological hatreds and their burning need to feel intellectually and morally superior to their fellow Americans. Hence Obama's contemptible comment about religion and guns. Time and time again I have heard Democrats refer to Republicans as "evil", "corrupt", "barbaric", "inhumane and inhuman," "lacking feelings", "bereft of humanity," "racist", "church burners", etc. There is nothing here but pure, unreasoning hatred.
The kind of hate Nazis felt for Jews and the Ku Klux Klan for blacks. The kind of hate that instils loathing and eventually justifies violence against the group targeted for destruction. The same kind of hate that denies the targeted group its very humanity. This vicious process of demonisation is what the Republicans are up against. I have no doubt they will eventually win. As I made clear, it is only the Democratic Party's ideologues, the True Believers, who are pursuing a policy of political extermination and the de facto establishment of a one-party state.
Nevertheless, recent events reveal that these ideologues have enormous influence in the Democratic Party and their ideas dominate the media. But so long as the Republicans remember they are the Party of Lincoln and act accordingly victory will eventually be theirs. I guess the final irony is that the vast majority of blacks have turned against the party of emancipation and individual responsibility and now support the party of slavery, segregation and Jim Crow laws that now imposes dependency and racist quotas. The same Democratic Party that tells them they cannot succeed on their own. The Party that tells them they are not good enough to intellectually compete with whites. And now we have a black candidate spewing the same vile line so that he can become the head overseer1.
This is the party that tells blacks they need the Democrats as a crutch: the same party that says it is not racist. Perhaps Jefferson Davis did get the last laugh after all. Did he not think that Blacks were so inferior to whites that they could not be trusted to look to their own affairs? That without the slave-supporting Democratic Party the black man would be lost and helpless in a world he lacked the intelligence to barely comprehend.
In the end, ideas, character, honest and patriotism matter — except to the Democrat Party's Republican-hating core of Leninist activists who, like the America-hating Michael Moore thinks that Americans are the dumbest people on earth. Now that's what these Democrats really think of their fellow Americans. It is time that Americans learnt that for hardcore Democrats loyalty is never for the country but always for the Party2.
1. Oprah Winfrey is an excellent example of the Democrats' ability to turn blacks against blacks in the name of civil rights. The same woman who publicly expressed her joy at Obama's nomination never uttered a word of protest at the Democrats' vile assault on Judge Clarence Thomas' probity and intellectual ability. Nor did she ever rise to the defence of black Republicans who were verbally lynched by Democrats. The same goes for Obama who, according to Oprah, will help Americans "evolve to a higher plane".
2. For those who doubt that for some Democrats there is no country only the party, I suggest you read George Orwell's penetrating insights into patrotism, nationalism and party loyalty in Notes on Nationalism in the Decline of the English Murder, Penguin Books, 1953.
