Highlights You Won’t Want To Miss In Cambodia

About to head to Cambodia on holiday? If you want to make the most of your time in this exotic Southeast Asian nation, take heed of the following suggestions below, and I am confident you will have the time of your life.

1) Phnom Penh

Many fly into the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, so we’ll start here. A rapidly growing city of over 1.5 million people, it is home to a number of attractions that will amaze and sadden you.

Get the shocking stuff out of the way first by heading to the infamous S-21 Museum, followed by a trip to the Killing Fields. The former was a torture centre where Pol Pot and his cretins interrogated and ‘re-educated’ non-compliant citizens, and made identified enemies of the state as miserable as possible, while the latter is where they were brutally executed.

Take along plenty of tissues – you’ll need them to wipe away tears on more than a few occasions.

Once you have gotten through that, check out this city’s other attractions – this includes Wat Phnom, the Russian Market, and the Royal Palace – don’t forget to take tonnes of pictures!

After a hectic day spent trudging through the dusty streets of Phnom Penh, you’ll want to find a way to blow off some steam. Fortunately, there are no shortage of gaming sites online that are equal to this task.

Offering games ranging from slots to blackjack to baccarat, you’ll find plenty of ways to satisfy the action junkie which lies within you. Some even take cryptocurrency, so if you have a stash of Bitcoin lying around gathering dust, put some of it into action and see what happens.

2) Angkor Wat

Next, you’ll want to hop on a bus to Siem Reap. This is a town which lies within easy driving distance from Angkor Wat, one of the world’s best preserved ruin complexes. Even if you aren’t that into temples, touring around these magnificent specimens for even one day will give you what is likely to be the highlight of your trip.

Photographers seeking an amazing spectacle will want to arrive at the main temple grounds by 4 am, as the sunrise over them ranks as one of the best photo ops in all of Southeast Asia.

Back in town, indulge in rollicking nightlife which doesn’t stop until dawn, and have a fantastic meal at cut-rate prices on Pub Street – after a day pretending to be Lara Croft, how can you not?!

3) Koh Rong

After a week of hardcore travel in Cambodia, relax in style by taking a boat to Koh Rong, an island which is easily home to this country’s best beaches.

First, though, you’ll need to endure Sihanoukville – once a beach destination in its own right, it is now a sleazy shell of its former self, crawling with sexpats and annoying touts.

Koh Rong is the polar opposite of this scene, with nearly deserted beaches throughout that are nearly flawless in composition. The main landing area is the only place with a modicum of activity, which enough restaurants, bars, and accommodations to keep travellers happy.

Beyond the home beach, there are plenty of others (two of which are four and seven miles long respectively) which lack a presence. Hire a boat to take you there (or trek if you are up to it), and you’ll have a beach day that all subsequent ones will be measured against.
