Enjoy top sport and entertainment in the USA this winter

With winter fast approaching many people will be thinking about how they can squeeze in a vacation to break up the long haul to next spring.

For the more active people amongst you, short breaks built around sports, entertainment and the great outdoors are a fantastic way to grab a few days away from the daily grind.

Whether you’re after a weekend away or something more substantial, there are a plethora of different travel options available to people over the coming months.

Read on as we look at three of the best ways you can enjoy a winter holiday in the United States.

Attractions galore in Pennsylvania

Many people immediately think of Las Vegas or Atlantic City if they’re planning trips based around casinos and entertainment, meaning places like Pennsylvania are often overlooked.

However, many PA casinos are some of the finest establishments you will find in the US, offering superb games, fantastic live entertainment and world class food.

There are also three racetracks in the region – Penn National, The Meadows and Presque Isle Downs – along with some excellent championship quality golf courses.

With numerous major league sports franchises also based in the area, Pennsylvania is undoubtedly a great place to enjoy a winter break.

Virginia is for Lovers

If you fancy a mix of outdoor activities and romantic nights, you would be well advised to head down the east coast to beautiful Virginia.

Five mountain resorts – Massanutten, Bryce, Omni Homestead Resort, Primland and Wintergreen – provide visitors with a superb base from which to enjoy winter sports.

When your day is done, chill out in beautiful mountain-top chalets that boast some of the most stunning views in the US.

If coastal breaks are more to your liking, Resort Beach, Sandbridge Beach and Chesapeake Bay Beach are also well worth checking out.

Watch the champions at Santa Anita

The two-day Breeders’ Cup meeting at the start of November is widely viewed as the pinnacle of horse racing in the US.

This year’s event will be held at the picturesque Santa Anita racetrack in California and will attract top equine stars from around the world.

The course is flanked by the San Gabriel Mountains and features tall palm trees that are reminiscent of Southern California.

With Pasadena and Los Angeles just down the road, a visit to this year’s Breeders’ Cup provides the perfect base for enjoying a trip to California.
