0What Floor is Best for your Gaming Room
If you love playing video games and you spend a lot of time on them, you might want to consider creating a space in your home where you can play without disturbing your family or housemates. Additionally, that room can also be used as an office space or party room for the boys, which makes it multi-purpose. You may not have realised yet, but in the case you use a computer the table and chair can actually case damage to the floor. The same happens if you have a bigger screen and other pieces of furniture. These heavy pieces can dent and or scratch the floor with unavoidable everyday movement. Luckily there are types of floors and ways of protecting it to make the most out of the room.
Engineered wood flooring
Engineered wood looks like hardwood because, even though it is made from layers of plywood, the boards are topped with a layer of real wood. This floor is very durable and unlike solid wood it can better withstand moisture and temperature fluctuations which also makes it safe for use with underfloor heating. Engineered floors are also extremely easy to take care of, needing only a regular hoover and or mop to retain its good looks.
As previously mentioned, engineered wood is fairly scratch resistant but if you want to add some protection you can apply a finish that can be sanded. This means if a scratch occurs, you can sand away the affected area to smooth it all back out. However you should be careful with spillages, even though the can handle the odd moisture, it isn’t waterproof. Always clear and dry spillages as soon as they happen to avoid causing extra damage.
Laminate flooring
If you’re worried that engineered floors are going to leave your pockets a little empty, then fear not. Laminate flooring is the perfect alternative. In this case the floor is totally synthetic but has an incredibly high resolution image printed that creates the illusion of having a solid wood floor. As with engineered flooring, laminate is a floating floor so you can safely install it in rooms with underfloor heating. Laminate is also able withstand moisture thanks to the backing layer, which protects the floor against water damage.
Additionally, laminate flooring is more waterproof than engineered or solid wood and is resistant to scratches. So you don’t need to worry if your office chair has wheels, they wont damage the floor. This floor has also a low maintenance needing only a regular sweep, hoover and mop to keep it looking as good as new.
Vinyl flooring
Vinyl flooring has been on the market for years. The reason behind its popularity is that this flooring is incredibly cheap and very easy to install. This floor might be of particular interest if you think that space will be temporary. Vinyl floors are not very invasive to the structure of your home and you can take it off as easily as you have installed it. Vinyl flooring is made of plastic, so it is totally water proof and highly scratch resistant. For a long time vinyl floors for shunned for being a cheap option, but nowadays this is not the case. Continuing advancements in manufacturing means vinyl floors are available in a huge range of styles and designs that give them a higher quality look.
