Five Tips To Packing Lightly

It’s not easy to be a practical packer. I mean, let’s be honest. You have an exciting trip coming up and you want to make sure you pack EVERYTHING you need. This, of course, can be very enticing.

However, with many airlines now charging additional fees for baggage, the best recommendation is to pack as lightly as possible. Although this can be challenging, here are five handy tips to packing as efficiently as possible for your next trip.

Measure Your Carry-On

If your carry-on bag exceeds a certain size, you’ll likely have to pay an additional fee. Prior to selecting which bags and suitcases you’re going to take, check your airline’s carry-on policy and understand how it may impact you. Generally speaking, if you travel with a carry-on suitcase that is under either 20 inches long or lighter than 20 pounds, you should be able to board any domestic flight with ease.

Take time to think about what you want to put in your carry-on or travel bag. Consider things like shirts, accessories, hygiene products, and cosmetics. You can try rolling any clothing that you have and folding up any other items. Vibrant Dentistry suggests finding a travel toothbrush that you like and can fit in your travel bag. This will make the whole process much easier.

Make a Checklist

While this may seem like a no-brainer, creating a checklist allows you to really see what is and isn’t necessary to take. With a checklist, you are able to establish specific numbers of items and you can cross off each one as they are packed. Don’t be tempted to pack more than what’s necessary – i.e. only pack for the number of days you’ll be away.

Give Yourself Time

Packing ahead of time will help you avoid the temptation of throwing in extra garments just before you leave. With enough time, you are able to carefully assess each item that you’re packing. The best way to do this is to lay everything out so you can see each and every item that you will be taking on your trip. Believe it or not, this will help lighten your load.

Wear Layers

If you’re traveling somewhere cold, you’re going to need layers. Consider packing thermal gear instead of enormous sweaters and jackets. If you do need bulky items, you might want to wear these on the plane instead.

Roll It Up

It’s time you stopped folding and started rolling. It’s amazing how much more space you’ll create when you roll your clothes. In doing so, you still want to consider weight distribution, such as putting shoes, pants, and sweaters in the corners of your suitcase. All rolled items should go towards the bottom of you bag, which lighter/dressier clothing going towards the top.

Recap

While it may be challenging, packing lightly is the way to go. You’ll thank yourself for it in the end and you’ll have a much more enjoyable trip in the meantime.
