Four Tips for Landing Your Perfect Teaching Job Abroad

If you know that teaching is the perfect career for you but don’t want to let it put a hold on your travel plans, then working as a teacher abroad, either in one location or whilst moving around from place to place could be the ideal lifestyle for you. We’ve put together some top tips to help you get better job opportunities as a teacher abroad.

Tip #1. Improve Your Resume:

Just like with any job, applying for teaching jobs around the world will only get better for you as your resume becomes more impressive. For example, you could study for a related degree program or take a master’s program that will be very useful to you as a teacher, such as the Master of Education in Behavior Analysis program available online from the University of Cincinnati. Additional qualifications will enable you to apply for more advanced positions, for example, teaching subjects other than English as a foreign language or working with special needs students.

Tip #2. Learn a Language:

To seriously improve your chances of landing the perfect teaching job overseas, learning a language is one of the best things that you can resolve to do. In general, people who are multi-lingual tend to have more opportunities when it comes to finding rewarding careers. If you are unsure of where you’d like to eventually work, it’s a good idea to choose a language that is widely spoken world-wide, for example, Spanish. Or, if you have the ideal destination in mind, learning the local language will make it easier for you to network, build contacts and find better opportunities.

Tip #3. Rack Up Experience:

If you’re currently studying for a teaching degree or similar from the University of Cincinnati Online, then it’s the perfect time for you to start gaining some valuable relevant experience in the teaching field. Even if you haven’t begun your travel adventure yet, there are several ways in which you can gain valuable experience at home which will help to set you apart from other applicants when the time comes. For example, you could volunteer at local schools, coach a local kids’ sports team, or even lead English as a foreign language classes for anyone moving to your area from abroad.

Tip #4. Be Proactive:

Lastly, it’s important to never sit around and simply hope that a teaching job will fall in your lap – it probably won’t! To land your perfect job as a teacher overseas, it’s important to take action and go for what you want. So, if you’re going to be traveling soon, why not take some copies of your resume and cover letter and make time to visit local schools?
