3 Tips For Keeping Yourself Safe As A Solo Female Traveler

If you’re a women who loves to travel but has a hard time finding people to travel with you or just enjoys going on adventures by yourself, there are a few things that you might want to do to help ensure that you’re not seen as an easy target and experiencing people seeking to take advantage of you while you’re on the road.

To give you some idea on how this can be accomplished, here are three tips for keeping yourself safe as a solo female traveler.

Stay Alert When You’re Out Drinking

When traveling around, taking the night to enjoy yourself and a drink is perfectly normal. However, when you’re a woman on her own in a strange place without people to look out for you when you’re out, it comes down to you to make sure that you’re being safe when you’re drinking. And because you likely won’t be carrying drug test cups around with you to see if something’s been slipped into your drink, you’ll need to just remain as alert as possible, even when you’re drinking.

Something that can help you stay safe when you’re out drinking is to share your location with someone back home. Additionally, you’ll need to make sure you have a limit to how much you’re drinking so that you don’t lose control of yourself and your faculties. And if you can find a place to drink where you feel safe, all the better.

Pack Light

While it can be hard to pare down what you want to bring with you on a trip, packing light is a great way to make things easier on yourself as a solo female traveler.

If you’re having to lug around a huge suitcase or giant backpack everywhere you go, you could become an easy target for someone to rob or get into an otherwise dangerous situation. And since you likely won’t want to just drop your stuff and run if you feel weird about something, you’ll want to try to only pack what you can comfortably move yourself and won’t weigh you down too much.

Take Measures To Make Yourself Feel Comfortable

Nothing beats trusting your gut when it comes to keeping yourself safe as a solo female traveler. So if there are things that you want to do to help you feel comfortable, do them.

For some, this might include bringing a portable door alarm with you wherever you stay. You could also do things like staying in the safest parts of the towns you’re visiting and hiding your belongings well both on your person and within your rooms. Whatever measures you need to take to feel comfortable, don’t be embarrassed to indulge.

If you want to travel on your own and feel safe while doing it, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you as a solo female traveler.
